How to fill out the best march madness bracket in your pool

It is officially March Madness and everyone is polishing up their bracket, hoping that they have the right picks to win their pool. But you’re watching this video because you don’t want to be like the crowd, who will have their bracket busted before the end of the first weekend. But you don’t need a PHD in bracketology just to pick a winning bracket you just need to follow the seven rules. Because each round of the tournament is worth the same amount of points, so you don’t need to have a perfect bracket in order for you to have the best one.

Rule 1 always pick the number 1 seeds in the first round. 99% of the time they have beaten the 16 seeds, so just pick the 1s and move on to the second round.

Rule 2 is to pick the matchups individually, and not focus on any particular team. You won’t know who you have as your champion until you’re done picking. And remember the final four is a war of attrition where only the strongest survive.

Rule 3 is to know all of the teams at the top of the bracket who actually have a chance to win. 90% of the time the champion is among the top 3 seeds, so you can ignore just about everyone else along the way.

Rule 4 is the hardest thing for most people, is to take a chance on a few upset picks because ignoring the teams you don’t know much about is what actually busts your bracket. 12 seeds are legit and those games are almost always 50/50. And 15 seeds can win if they play at their best, and their opponent plays below average. Take a leap of faith on a few teams that catch your eye because it’s called madness for a reason.

Rule 5 is to hedge your bets on your upset picks. If you have any team that is a 12 seed or below winning in round 1, cancel them out with a team they play against by the end of the sweet 16. Even if you get that game wrong, the team you had to cancel them out will still have a good shot against a top seeded team of advancing and keeping your bracket alive in the later rounds.

Rule 6 is simple. Don’t worry about the teams seeded between 4 and 11. I’m not saying they don’t matter, but 9 times out of 10, none of them will win the tournament, and they will beat up on each other and cancel each other out, until they play against the best teams. So do whatever you want to with those games.

Rule 7 is the most important of all. Don’t try to pick a perfect bracket. Just try to be good, because if a random upset happens that you didn’t have, almost nobody else will have it either. That means that losing those points won’t affect you much at all with winning your bracket pool.

The Bottom Line

Picking the winning bracket is everybody’s goal, but the will to prepare to win is what bracketology was invented for. And you should have everything you need to dominate your bracket pool. And you can thank me later when your bracket is the only one left standing.

KNOW THE GAME. WIN THE GAME.
