The Process to Register for the NCAA Eligibility Center
To register for the NCAA Eligibility Center is not as hard as you may think, but it does involve several steps. Follow the following in order to get one step closer to being declared fully eligible for college sports.
Register Online for a NCAA Certification Account with a valid e-mail (Choose an NCAA Profile if you are only considering D3 schools)
Fill out you personal information completely
Send Official Transcripts and SAT/ACT test scores to the NCAA
Submit the NCAA’s amateurism questionnaire
Pay $90 to pay for your account to be active (D3 Profiles are free)
Recent Eligibility Changes: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA implemented a series of changes for eligibility. Going forward from the Class of 2023 and beyond, incoming recruits will be extended ACT/SAT waivers. This means that student-athletes will not be required to submit a score for either exam in order to obtain eligibility. This will certainly help some recruits, but remember that many colleges still require the exam scores. In addition, many schools are using it as a qualifier for much needed academic financial aid and scholarship dollars.
How long does the registration process take
The process of registering with the NCAA can take time for two reasons, The first is your responsibility to complete the requirements. Most of the eligibility center actions are about you filling something out, or submitting information. Therefore it should not take you too long to complete any one action. Submitting a transcript officially normally requires reaching out to your high school’s guidance office and giving them the information to send it. The other half of the process is the time it takes for your information to be processed. The online system does work well, but there is often a delay between when you submit something and when it is received in the system. Don’t wait until the last minute to send things because there will almost always be a waiting period.
Remember that registering for the NCAA Eligibility Center is a $90 fee for American students, but will cost more for international students. There is also a fee waiver system that you may qualify for. The fee is also non-refundable
