Marybeth Sant was the fastest girls high school sprinter in 2019 - Where is she now?

The 2023 track and field season is over, and the women’s 100 meter dash did not disappoint. Sha’carri Richardson won the World Championships, but Shericka Jackson won the Diamond League final, which gives every fan a lot to look forward to in the upcoming Olympics. But if you were paying close attention at the USA outdoor championships there was a woman on the starting line who most people have forgotten about. Marybeth Sant-Price was there in the 100 meter heats, a full decade after she led the entire nation in the 100 meter dash. Regardless of whether or not you remember her name, she has proven to be one of America’s best sprinters. However, most fans have not been paying attention.

How fast was Marybeth Sant in high school?

Marybeth Sant-Price is proof of just how talented you have to be to even have a shot at making it as a professional sprinter. At the high school level it should go without saying that she dominated her competition. She swept the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes at the Colorado state meet in both her junior and senior years. She also broke the state records in the 100 and 60 meter dashes along the way. But none of that really matters as much as her title as the fastest girls sprinter in all of 2013 running 11.25 wind legal. That performance got her recruited to the top women’s sprint program throughout all of the 2010s in the Oregon Ducks, but things did not go according to plan.

What happened to Marybeth Sant in college?

Marybeth sprinted at Oregon and had some success in the Pac-12. But she never broke through as an individual qualifier at the NCAA championship meet. In fact, her only races at the NCAA meet came in the 4x100 meter relay. That was the year where her team was loaded with future world championships medalists Jenna Prandini and Jasmine Todd. Yet they still were disqualified in the NCAA final race. That was still her sophomore year, and after that she disappeared from the track for two full seasons. The reason for her absence was due to serious injury, where doctors questioned if her legs would ever be healthy enough to ever sprint again. But she was not willing to give up that easily, and finally popped up again on the track, competing close to home at Colorado State University.

The Mountain West Conference in track is nowhere near as good as the Pac-12, but she did win conference medals in the 60 and 100 meter dashes during her final college season in 2019. She even made the NCAA championships indoors in the 60 meter dash. Nobody would have blamed her for calling it a career after this, but this is where things get interesting.

Marybeth Sant-Price is one of the fastest women in the world

In 2020 her first year out of college she ran unattached but made the USA Indoor final in the 60 meter dash. She then followed that up by making the Olympic Trials in 2021 in the 100 meter dash. However, it was in 2022 when she made good on the potential that she flashed all the way back in high school. Because Marybeth Sant-Price, who never even made an NCAA final, not only went second at the USA indoor championships in the 60, but also won the bronze medal for the world indoor meet, running a new PR to pull it off. In 2023 she proved it was not a fluke by going second again at the USA indoor meet! Regardless of whether or not you’ve forgotten about her, Marybeth Sant-Price was the fastest girl in America in 2013. And one full decade later, she has proven herself to be legitimate as a world class sprinter. She never had the success in college that we all knew she could. She was never even sponsored throughout much of her time as a pro. But Marybeth Sant-Price is a World Championship medalist, and proof that it doesn’t always matter if the trailer doesn’t match the movie, because if you keep on watching until the end, things might turn out just fine.
