What to do if you are an Uncommitted Senior Recruit

If you are a senior and you do not have college offers do not panic. It is not too late for you to get college offers. The process does require work but if you are serious you can certainly find a program that will be interested in you. But you will need to know exactly who to contact and what to do when you do.

When do coaches stop taking on new recruits

The answer to this varies from program to program. But generally there is a trickle down effect in recruiting. The top athletes and the top teams will be engaging in recruiting discussions early and often. But at the lower ends of D1 and beyond coaches will wait until the dust settles on those “top ranked” recruits to know who they should be focusing on.  Coaches may still have open roster spots to fill even late into senior year for your recruiting class.

Some athletes de-commit from schools which leave coaches with open roster spots at any level. Others simply struggle to fill out their slots prior to the new year. When a new coach takes over a program there is almost always a new wave of recruiting that starts. But an other major influencer is the growing impact of the transfer portal. Coaches may hold out for a transfer athlete and if that falls through they will have a roster spot to fill.

What is Signing Day and how will it impact my recruiting?

Signing Day is a phenomenon that is related to a National Letter of Intent or (NLI) that athletes sign to receive an athletic scholarship. It is officially when an athlete is claiming scholarship dollars. However, if you are not receiving athletic scholarship then signing day in this sense is not something you need to be too concerned with. Likewise, signing days are the beginning of a time period where recruits can claim athletic scholarships, not the end of it. Up until the end of the signing windows, which run from May all the way through August prior to the fall for each sport, you can still sign with a team. And recruits who will not receive “athletic” aid are still able to make a decision after that point.
